1) Characterization is defined in ââ¬Å"Literature Reading. Reacting. Writingâ⬠as a way in which writers develop their characters and reveal those character traits to the reader. In other word Characterization is the way the author describes the character in more detail. Itââ¬â¢s a way for the author tells us the reader important information about the character. Characterization can make the story more interesting and creates the story to be more detailed. Two stories in which characterization makes the story better and are similar in the way that the themes go is ââ¬Å"Aamp;Pâ⬠written by John Updlike and ââ¬Å"Arabyâ⬠written by James Joyce. Both story is about a worker who is admiring a woman from a far. In ââ¬Å"Aamp;Pâ⬠Updlike characterize the three girlsâ⬠¦show more contentâ⬠¦The symbol in this story is Love. In each story, either both of the characters were in love with each other or one character was in love with the other. In some situati on such as story A, where John and Mary fall in love and live happily with their children and friend till they die is an example in which both characters were in love with each other. While in story B where Mary is in love with John but he is just using her. In the end Mary ends up committing suicide as a cry for attention from john so he can love back hoping he will make it in time to safe her. Her plan doesnââ¬â¢t work out and she ends up dying from an overdose while john marries another woman whom he spends the rest of his life with and dies. 3) Setting is defined in ââ¬Å"Literature Reading. Reacting. Writingâ⬠as a background against which the action of a work takes place. It can be a historical place, locate, season, time of day, weather, and such. It is what is surrounding the location of the time the story is happening. It all of the other things that are going on in the story. It can be the foundation of the story. In ââ¬Å"The Things They Carriedâ⬠by Tim Oââ¬â¢Brien the setting makes the story. The story takes places at a war. Through out the story the setting is used to create an image for the reader. It creates the image in your head as you are reading the story, you can clearly see the solider walking with the bags on their back. As well as the soldiers fighting and watching one of their own die
